Exactly 50 years ago, in 1960 in Montréal, my grandfather built a brand of good old-fashioned Canadian-made workwear products. He named it after himself and my grandmother, Paul and Rose Svarc... Paulrose Products. In January 2010 my grandfather passed away. He was without a doubt the greatest man I ever knew. Paul Svarc had a very difficult youth in Eastern Europe, he endured some of the most horrible terrors any man has been through. Yet he survived, moved to Paris, and eventually to Canada with little in his pocket. Together with his wife Rose they built a business that still exists today and continues to support our family. After he passed away, my father was looking through his office to find items of sentimental value. He stumbled across an old brass die with a wooden base. In the 1980s, my grandfather decided to move the company to a different and much larger location in Montréal. At that time the Paulrose brand was abandoned for other product lines. This brass die is the last existing artefact of the original Paulrose brand. Inspired by this brass die, and in tribute and honour of my grandfather, I have created a modern re-imagination of Paulrose Products.
